Three of my Favorites

Client: SigGraph

Status: In the Wild

One of my favorite poster designs. It was displayed in the SIgGraph 2008 (I think) show. It was originally a school project that got out of hand.

This icon was designed for ITR Mobility. It's intended use is for when we have a new app but don't have an icon created yet. The page curl represents just barely being able to see the underlying blue print of the app.

We needed a default splashscreen for in progress work. So I thought why not?

Work

A selection of my work. Some fun, some not, but all good.

ITR Mobility wanted new business cards to go with their new image. For the business cards to fit, they need something that in essence was simple but that felt very high quality. The end product was produced on 160lb stock with three runs through the press. The overall effect is a card that feels as good as it looks.

These bookmarks were created on the spur of the moment. Nathan Clevenger the chief software architect for ITR wrote a book (iPad in the Enterprise), so naturally we needed a bookmark for it. The entire project was started and finished in 1 day then shipped off to the printer. Now they live on in promo copies of the book on the desk of CEOs across the country.

I decided to redesign the classic story of Jekyll and Hyde. The cover is purposely on backwards. It gives you an unnatural feeling, just like the story.

I think it is time for a random doodle.

About

The ever present question.

Me

My name is Gary Keeler. I make things, but there comes a point on every designers website where we must talk randomly about ourselves. So this brings us to the ever present question. What do we write? Do we write about our childhood and what made us the way we are. Or do we write about our school history. Maybe we should regale our listeners with humorous tales of my life. I think that maybe I will follow the trends of other designers. Namely a mix of past, present, and future (Marley not included).

Past

It all began in 1988 in rural Wisconsin. I was born and raised in the country. The interesting part starts once I got my hands on paper and pencil. Was I the most technically adept? No, but I made up for it in enthusiasm. One of the first drawings I remember is from when I was around 6 and drew a gladiator! But alas the proportion is off and the shading is, well, childish. So I improved from there and went through the grades armed with pencil and paper doodling my way to (supposed) greatness!

Then UW-Barron County entered the picture. It was my first truly academic experience with art! And a wake up call it was. Not that I didn't have the skill or ability, but that the passion to always make it better was needed. So I grew by (what seemed to me) leaps and bounds and began to get outspoken on my views. Next came UW-Stout where I was first introduced to design, or at least introduced to the process of understanding design. The other students and teachers only helped to expand my growing bag of skills. With this we arrive at the present.

Present

I currently work at ITR Mobility as a UI/EVerything Designer. This too has only helped elevate the level of my work. It has added extra attention to detail and also given me the confidence to truly know that my skills are needed. Up until this point all designers have questions about the "real world". So when I asked the world are you ready for me? The world responded with a resounding YES! Now I could go on and on about some of the Fortune 500 companies that I call clients but I might be violating some of the confidentiality clauses so just know that they are there...and they are cool. Which brings us to the future.

Future

This section is still being written. Literally I mean. Everyday brings new challenges and opportunities. How we overcome our challenges and capitalize on our opportunities continues to shape us. What shape will I become? Can you help me decide? With that said I leave my future in your hands

"But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; Tread softly because you tread on my dreams." W.B. Yates
